Taliban action threatens elections.

Posted in MQM on 15.04.13

anp_leader_talibanThe news of Mukarram Shah’s murder has frightened political leaders. Now it has become clear that Taliban will strike leaders.  This is the second assassination.  They have killed an MQM leader in Hyderabad.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed the responsibility of the killing, but they did not explain why they killed him.Taliban has issued warning that they will kill leaders belonging to MQM and ANP.

I know parties would have been facing difficulty in running their election campaigns.  Former Information Minister of KP has given a stupid statement in this regard. He said that the Government had failed to provide security to ANP leadership.  ANP has been in power for 5 years why could they control Taliban.

Leaders and Government officials they think they are responsibility is only to issue statements.

MQM has shown that how local government works.

Posted in Karachi, MQM on 13.04.13

Deputy Convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM Farooq Sattar Saturday said that MQM manifesto was aimed at achieving progress , prosperity and stability in the country through empowering people at grass-roots level.Talking to APP, he said that effective implementation of local government system was their top priority. “We want to bring `revolution through devolution’ where local governments- the third tier of government – would empower people, strengthen state and bring prosperity in the country”.

via MQM manifesto promises power devolution at local level: Farooq Sattar.

MQM has shown what local government system can bring to the people. What their city nazims did in Karachi and Hyderabad is amazing.  Everyone is praising their work. It is strange that PPP, which claims to be a democratic force, did not held local government elections and tried every dirty tricks to postpone elections. No it has become clear what they did it. They have wasted more than 670 million in their constituencies. Where did they spend the money. Their areas still lack basic services.

PPP ignored MQM constituencies

Posted in Karachi, MQM on 13.04.13

When asked the reason behind frequent threats hurled by MQM during the last year for leaving the coalition government‚ he said they have been protesting against injustice. He said just 30 billion rupees were spent on development in urban Sindh in five years as compared to 670 billion spent in PPP constituencies but the results are nowhere visible.

via MQM enjoys good relations with Pervez Musharraf: Farooq Sattar.

Dr. Farooq statement indicates that people did not treat them well. He may be right. Voters like me are of the opinion that party should have left the coalition if PPP was not paying to attention to their demands.

MQM candidate’s killing: Two booked in Hyderabad

Posted in MQM on 13.04.13

Police have filed a case against two unknown persons over the killing of provincial candidate of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM, while two suspects were also arrested in this connection here on Friday.

via MQM candidate’s killing: Two booked in Hyderabad

The police action indicates they have done this silence critics. It is strange that that police have registered this case? Where are slain leader’s family and party members?

I would like to tell my blog readers that the US State Department has also expressed deep sympathy and sorrow over the murder of MQM candidate. Patrick Ventrell warned that this kind of incident would make the claims of peaceful and democratic Pakistan questionable.

Debating MQM’s manifesto:

Posted in Uncategorized on 13.04.13

mqm-manifestoExpress Tribune has told us how MQM’s prominent leaders tried to explain their manifesto to a panel consisting of Pervez Hoodbhoy, Mukhtar Ahmed and Shafqat Kakakhel. The paper reported :

Ahmed said MQM’s manifesto is comprehensive regarding the goals the party wants to achieve but is considerably weak in defining how exactly these targets will be met.

In response, Rizvi, who relied on poetry to drive home some of his rebuttals, said details might be missing from the manifesto because MQM had to boil down a 1200-page policy document to the 33-page manifesto.

I have been a MQM voter for a long time. I have a same question for MQM lawmakers. How would they achieve their goals?

They could not satisfy the panelists. In my opinion, MQM needs other parties to fulfill what the party has laid down in its manifesto, we see that the party is in war with the two major national parties.  Numbers play a very important role in politics. If you don’t’ have good number of seats in the parliament, you will to implement your policies.

MQM should not field Ayesha Ahad against Hamza Shahbaz

Posted in MQM, MQM Punjab on 13.04.13

Muzaffar Ali has revealed in his article in the Pakistan Observer that MQM will give a ticket to Ayesha Ahad, a woman who claims she is the wife of Hamza Shahbaz Shareef’ wife. He wrote:

In Lahore, the coordination committee of MQM has strongly recommended Ayesha Ahad from NA-119 Lahore against PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz Sharif. Being a supposed wife of Hamza Shahbaz, a son of PML-N former Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz, she could cause perpetual irritation for Hamza Shahbaz. Some political experts believe that NA-119 would become an interesting battle field if the MQM awards party ticket to Ayesha Ahad as the political force operating from Nine-Zero has the mastery over launching propaganda drives, especially when they have some evidence against their opponent.

MQM should not do such kind of things. PMLN is one of the biggest parties of Pakistan and enjoys great public support.   No one knows who will form the government in the center. Analysts say that PMLN can for the government.

They have a right to field a field candidate against Hamza, but that person should not be Ayesha Ahad.

This kind of politics will irk people and hurt them.

A state operation has been launched: MQM lawmakers

Posted in Karachi, MQM on 12.04.13

MQM’s lawmakers say that a state operation has been launched against them. They said this while addressing a press conference after the brutal murder of their party member in Hyderabad. We all know that Fakhrul Islam was gunned outside his home in Halanaka Hyderabad.

Mr. Farooq termed the assassination  an act to frightened his party and accused that police, rangers and criminals are persecuting its party members. Mr. Farooq said:

Such acts of terrorism fall under the head of pre-poll rigging,

The MQM is being unnecessarily hounded by the police and Rangers while criminals have been given a free hand to operate.

The MQM has a zero-tolerance policy for crime and terrorism but detaining innocent people in peaceful areas of Karachi on the pretext of house-to-house search by police and Rangers and subjecting them to brutal torture will undermine the environment conducive for election activities

If MQM thinks that the law enforcement agencies are using excessive force in the areas where they are conducting operations and violating laws of the land then they must come up with evidence to prove their assertions.

Violence and murders have been going on in Karachi and Hyderabad for many years.  They had been in coalition for five years. The care taker set-up was installed after consultation with them. Now their complaint looks unconvincing to me. Their man has been gunned down. Police needs to find out the killers and prosecute them.

Like every residents of Karachi, I also want actions against criminals and Taliban who are engaged in criminal activities in Karachi.
